Join us for a discussion of Wendy Wasserstein's life and work and the important themes in her writing. Actress, director and co-founder of The Custom Made Theatre Company Leah Abrams will lead our exploration of this playwright’s impact on American theater and culture. Ms. Abrams will perform selected readings from Wasserstein’s plays, including a poignant monologue from "The Heidi Chronicles.”

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
