Universal Pre-Kindergarten Director

**This is a temporary position through 6/30/19**

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Early Learning Services, the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Director manages early-learning services for the Queens Library’s’ UPK program at Woodhaven and Ravenswood with a focus on the programs’ educational instruction and teaching strategies.

  • Responsible for the management of all pedagogical and curricular aspects of the program.
  • Oversees and maintains high quality teaching in compliance with Department of Education and Queens Library’ program standards with evidence-based curricular, including lesson planning, observations, individual student portfolios and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Manages student recruitment and enrollment.
  • Provides guidance, training and coaching to teaching staff on implementing lesson plans.
  • Provides support to the UPK classroom. Liaises with Department of Education and assists with data entry for UPK report preparation.
  • Ensures that teachers are working in collaboration with other support services such as mental health and special needs services to meet needs of children and families.
  • Collaborates with families to support and share the educational needs of their children.
  • Manages program budget.
  • Ensures compliance with Department of Education and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene requirements.
  • Attends necessary meetings related to current program.
  • Participates in outreach initiatives.
  • Aides in identification and development of partnership opportunities with community based organization and educational institutions to support the goals and objectives of the school programs.
  • Ensures required statistics, data and reports are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for program reporting and budget management.
  • Provides regular reports regarding outcomes and progress.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters of Education required. A New York State teaching license or certificate valid for service in the early childhood grades (Birth–Grade 2 or Nursery–Grade 6); or a teaching license or certificate for students with disabilities valid for service in early childhood grades (Birth–Grade 2 or Nursery–Grade 6) required.
  • 5 years of experience as a teacher with classroom experience including 2 years of experience at the Lead Teacher level required.
  • First Aid and CPR certificates required. Cleared background check and fingerprints indicating ability to work with children required.
  • Experience working in an inclusive and diverse work environment and managing across differences.
  • Experience in fiscal management/budget preparations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Bilingual language skills preferred.
