Adult Education Volunteer Advisor

** This is a temporary grant funded position until 6/30/18. **

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Adult Education Volunteer Advisor will support outreach and volunteer management efforts including: volunteer recruitment; volunteer retention and recognition; the planning, facilitation, and maintenance of initial and ongoing training; and the development and scheduling of community education and activities.  

  • Recruits, screens, interviews, and trains volunteers to work within the four Adult Learning Divisions: Adult Learner Program, Job & Business Academy, New Americans Program and Young Adult Literacy Program
  • Responds to all volunteer inquiries for the agency.
  • Implements curriculum and related materials for all volunteer trainings.
  • Plans and/or facilitates professional development for volunteers.
  • Implements best practices for volunteer retention.
  • Plans and executes all volunteer appreciation events. Develops new innovative ways for end of year recognition to volunteers.
  • Facilitates volunteer (Volunteer Advocates, Volunteer Educator, Group Facilitator) schedules and follows up with Adult Learning supervisors when necessary.
  • Works with Adult Learning supervisors to review volunteer performance and reassign or terminate volunteers as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Manages multiple tasks with frequent interruption. 
  • Maintains database for tracking and scheduling volunteers and volunteer opportunities.
  • Follows Queens Public Library’s policies and adheres to NYSED Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant specifications.
  • Communicates, interacts and works effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. 
  • Conducts outreach at community events to recruit a diverse pool of volunteers
  • Participates in required trainings to stay up to date on adult education best practices
  • Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Must have at least one year of successful experience in group facilitation and volunteer recruitment, training and support.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience in areas such as adult education, community relations, supervision, conflict management and advocacy preferred.
  • Must have customer service and public advocacy skills.
  • Must be able to think critically and problem solve.
  • Must have a strong command and knowledge of Microsoft Office, and ease in adaption to new technology.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential.
