“Fighting for the Dream,” by Victoria Moy, is a collection of oral histories of 40 Chinese-American men and women, ages 24-94, who served in wars from World War II to the current conflict in Afghanistan. The panel discussion brings together the author and several military veterans, including Fang A. Wong (U.S. Army), Tony Lee (U.S. Air Force) and William Chan (U.S. Army).

QL International Resource Center Presents Christmas in Rome: the Pope and the Vatican

This photo lecture showcases Rome as the city pulses with holiday energy from December to early January’s Epiphany. Few places in the world match the sheer joy, beauty and religious fervor of Christmas in Rome, the Eternal City.
The lecture includes also ceremonies at St. Peter’s in the Vatican, where crowds gather in the tens of thousands to see the new Pope, who seems to be bringing vast changes to this 2,000 year old institution.

Indie Short Film Screening and a Conversation with the Filmmaker

Queens resident Robertson Tirado wrote, directed and produced "The Lost Interview of Carlina La Salle.” The 18-minute fictional docudrama, which debuted at the New Filmmakers New York Film Festival in October, explores the life of a prominent German-born actress who comes to New York in the early 20th century to act in the "talkies." Tirado will discuss the making of the film and his inspiration as a filmmaker. A question-and-answer session will follow the screening.
