ConnectED Library HotSpot

This Library program enables the families of eligible students to “check out” Internet service from  the Library—absolutely free. The program is intended to help New York City public school students access online educational resources at home to help complete their homework. 

The ConnectED Library Hotspot Loan Program is a collaborative program by New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library and Department of Education to provide thousands of NYC K12 students with free Internet access for the rest of the school year. This program addresses the needs of more than 1 in 5 New York City households who do not have home access to high-speed Internet services. 

In order to participate in the Library Hotspot Loan Program, you must prepared to present your Queens Library adult library card. In addition, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Program Details

1. Who is eligible to participate?

The program is open to patrons who:

  • are at least 18 years old and have a child in a New York City public school
  • have no household Internet access at the time of sign-up
  • have a valid adult library card with no outstanding fines. If you are eligible and register for a lending event, please visit the library in advance to confirm that your library card is active and to resolve any outstanding fines.

2. How long can I check out the device?

The device and service can be borrowed until July 5, 2017.

3. How much will it cost?

It is absolutely free. There are no fees for the device or service.

4. What if I lose it or return it late?

If the device is lost or not returned, a fine of $100 will be assessed and
your library card privileges will be blocked until the device is returned
or the fine is paid.

How to Check Out a HotSpot

Queens Library does not have any more lending events scheduled since nearly all HotSpot devices are checked out.  We have a small number of devices available at the Central Library. We are now accepting walk-ins to check out a Library HotSpot, please visit the Central Library located at 89-11 Merrick Blvd or call (718) 990-0700 for more information.
