Description:
LITERACY SERVICES Provides small-group instruction by trained volunteers for English-speaking adult new learners who cannot read above the fifth grade level. ESOL Classes for adult new learners not literate in their native languages. ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL) Free ESOL courses for adults (age 16 and older) at the Central Library and community libraries. In addition, there are small conversation groups and interactive computer programs for learning English, at Adult Learning Centers. TUTOR TRAINING Tutor training workshops are held for adult literacy and ESOL conversation volunteers. MATERIALS AVAILABLE A broad range of fiction and non-fiction books including biographies, science, math and coping skills for adult new readers and for those whose native language is not English. Cassettes, DVDs and videotapes for ESOL and literacy students. Professional materials for adult literacy and ESOL teachers. Computer-assisted instruction is available for ESOL and literacy students.
