Hour Children is a multifaceted family service provider established in 1995 by a group of Sisters of Saint Joseph to provide support to incarcerated mothers and their children. As a nonsectarian charity, we are unique in that we accept both mother and child into our programs, and reunite mothers with their children. We serve women in Albion, Bayview, Beacon, Bedford and Taconic Correctional Facilities in New York State, as well as Rikers Island in New York City. Hour Children is unique in its style of program delivery since we begin working with women while they are still in prison, bringing their children to visit and offering the mothers advocacy, parenting and domestic violence, support groups and counseling to ease their transition to reunification with their children. Hour Children offers both prison-based and community-based programs, including: Advocacy, family reunification programs, parenting and pre-release employment programs, volunteer lawyers, community outreach, supportive housing, after school club, thrift shop and furniture outlet and ongoing educational programs.
