The Domestic Violence accountability program takes a preventive approach to domestic violence. The program targets the root of the problem by teaching batterers the legal, social, and psychological consequences of their abusive behavior. The program focuses on issues of power and control and seeks to teach batterers that they are responsible for their own actions. The program is a 26 week workshop for up to 15 participants designed to educate them about the historical and social significance of domestic violence. It teaches them to assume responsibility for their abusive behavior by letting them know that they can stop the abuse, and providing them with tools to do so. More than 500 men attend ATV workshops each year.
