New York Service for the Handicapped operates Camp Oakhurst, which provides a sleep-away summer camp, year-round respite and off-season vacations. Camp Oakhurst is not for the blind or deaf. Camp Oakhurst is for the physically disabled only. The Camp activities include arts, crafts, cooking, fitness, athletics and woodworking. Kosher meals and some special diets are available.
Mon.-Fri., 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Children over 7, teens and adults of all ages who have physical disabilities which affect their movement, mobility, coordination or stamina are eligible. All participants must provide medical information and be interviewed by a counselor.
Fees/Methods of Payment:$700 per week. Scholarships are available.
Access for People with Disabilities:Wheel chair ramp at entrance; wheel chair ramp(s) internally; arrangement of furniture, displays & equipment for handicapped; special restroom facilities; grab bars in restrooms.
