The Allen Women's Resource Center is a safe haven for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence. The Resource Center houses support groups, childcare, and parenting programs. Their services include therapy to help residents deal with the physical and emotional trauma they have suffered, both General Education Degree (G.E.D.) test preparation and English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) programs to help women become more self-sufficient, and preventative counseling services to teach the residents what steps they ought to take to safeguard themselves in the case of future conflict. The Women's Resource Center also provides aftercare services to women who were once residents. Through aftercare, women are provided assistance with needs ranging from food, clothing and furniture for themselves and their family, to housing information and referrals to trusted realtors. The Center also works closely with the City of New York's 'Superwoman Program', which helps place women in career fields from which they are traditionally excluded.
