The program's purpose is to provide shelter to abused women. The program provides access, through New York City agencies, to counseling services, medical services, support groups, and public assistance when needed. Any battered woman may apply to this program for shelter. Women Helping Women offers shelter for low-wage-earning women for a minimal fee, though available space is always a consideration. Women having no source of income after leaving a batterer may apply for public assistance and come to Women Helping Women through Safe Horizon. Women get three meals a day. Women who have been here and are interested in further education or in career counseling may apply on a short-term basis for financial help. During this period, the former guest contributes service to the Women Helping Women program.
