An umbrella advocacy organization for approximately 150 groups in New York State that work with immigrants, refugees, asylees and the undocumented. Advocates for policies at the city, state and federal levels that ensure the full rights and socio-economic well-being of newcomers. Works to analyze the impact of immigration policies on New York State, improve newcomers' access to services, resolve problems with public agencies, and mobilize member groups to respond to public issues and community needs. MULTI-LINGUAL OUTREACH Develops materials to educate newcomer communities on important issues. Brochures and fact sheets on the new immigration and welfare laws, employment discrimination, the citizenship process, school registration and immigration status issues are produced in twelve languages. Also provides information to the ethnic and mainstream media on important community issues. POLICY ANALYSIS Analyzes and advocates on proposed laws or policies that affect immigrants and the communities that receive them.
