We have a very large music score collection at the Queens Central Library in the Fine Arts & Recreation Division. It is unique to Queens, since this material is found no where else in our branches or within the Queens community for public use. It consists of over 44,000 volumes, ranging from ancient through contemporary music of different genres and various countries. The symbol "MU" that precedes the call number indicates that the title is a music score: for example MU 781.66 Beatles. It comprises:
Sheet music and lyrics to ancient, baroque,renaissance, classical, romantic ,and modern songs, whether they be traditional or popular ,art or rock, folk,jazz,religious hymns or gospel, holiday or wedding, new age or rhythm and blues,,English or foreign, original or arranged.
Scores for opera,musicals and films. Music just for individual instruments such as piano, organ, guitar, clarinet,saxophone,flute, recorder, violin, viola, cello,string bass,harmonica, accordion, drums, harp, the sitar, etc,.
Scores and parts for duets, ensembles,chamber music such as quartets, quintets and trios.
Miniature and regular scores for orchestral music, such as overtures, concertos, and symphonies.
Librettos for almost every opera performed.
Scores on how to play an individual instrument, such as the piano,violin, drums, guitar, and saxophone for beginners as well as advanced players. Masterpieces by diverse composers of the world, for voice or instruments. We own the complete works of Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Chopin,Handel, Joplin, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Schonberg, Schubert, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky.
Scores can be checked out with a Queens Library Card for 21 days and renewed three times. They may also be reserved, interloaned, photocopied, faxed and returned to any Queens Branch.
