The Social Sciences Division comprises two departments: Social Sciences and History/Travel/Biography, with holdings of over 300,000 books; over 300 reference  periodicals (including titles on microfilm); 40 circulating periodicals; many circulating atlases and road maps; and a partial depository of social science related government documents. We offer our customers a broad selection of materials that satisfy those requiring the most specialized reference information, while also pleasing those customers who simply enjoy reading a good book.

Listed are some of the subject areas in our collection:  biographies, costumes, customs, education, epistemology, ethics, etiquette, folklore, geography, history, journalism and publishing, law, library and information science, logic, metaphysics, mythology, occult, philosophy, political science, psychology, public administration, religion, social work, sociology, statistics, style & fashion, travel, true crime, and weddings.

The Social Sciences Division also maintains special reference collections such as the Carter G. Woodson Collection of African - American Culture and Life and the Foundation Center  collection of books and databases.

The Job Information Center is also located within the Division.  This circulating and reference collection serves as a resource for job seekers and those exploring career options.
