WOODSIDE COMMUNITY LIBRARY CLOSED

Saturday, January 13, 2018

Woodside Community Library, located at 54-22 Skillman Avenue, will be closed until further notice. The Library was closed on January 3rd for emergency maintenance and repairs. Some carpet tiles on the main floor had curled up after being cleaned last week, creating a significant safety hazard. There are asbestos tiles underneath the carpeting. Air quality tests came back negative with respect to asbestos. However, we are going to retain a vendor to conduct an abatement of the facility and replace the floor tiles.

We are still determining when the work will be completed and will notify you as soon as we know when the building will open again.

In the meantime:

  • Mobile library service will be provided nearby on Roosevelt Avenue. This service was originally scheduled to start on Wednesday, January 17, but will now start on Friday, January 19. Service will be provided every Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm until Woodside reopens.
  • The Woodside STACKS afterschool program has been relocated to Jackson Heights Community Library starting Tuesday, January 16.
  • All other programs at Woodside are canceled until further notice. We will communicate updates directly to you and on our website and social media platforms, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
  • All reserved books for Woodside will expire and fines for items not picked up will be removed. To have the fines removed, please contact us at the number below.
