Arverne Library Has Re-Opened

Queens Library at 312 Beach 54 Street has been rebuilt and re-opened for public service on March 18. More good news: the modular building that has been temporarily in service during the rebuilding will remain in place and temporarily house an Adult Learning Center, offering a full menu of adult education and job skills services.

A grand opening celebration will be held on Friday, April 18 at 11 am. Everyone is invited!

Queens Library at Seaside Re-Opening

Queens Library at Seaside, at 116-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Rockaway Park, will be open for public service as of Monday, October 28, 2013.

The library was temporarily closed while damage caused by Superstorm Sandy was repaired.

Update on Shorefront Libraries: New Services and Rebuilding Libraries

     We are approaching the anniversary of the landing of Superstorm Sandy on our shores. Queens Library has been working hard to help the communities in the Rockaways rebuild, while continuing to provide the educational and informational support that you value. We are here for homework help, job skills training, education for adults and children, ESOL classes, and so much more, to provide the resources needed for learning, personal growth and business development.


     I want to update you on the status of rebuilding the storm-damaged libraries, and also tell you about some new enhancements. We have come a long way, and expect to be see all the waterfront community libraries as good as new very soon.

The library is back and serving the public. Re-opened!
Queens Library at Arverne, 312 Beach 54 Street. The temporary library is serving the community with programs, classes, job search help, homework assistance and more. It will re-open in March 2014. Re-opening March 18, 2014
Queens Library at Peninsula, 92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd., Rockaway Beach This library requires extensive re-building due to storm damage. Design is nearly complete. A modular building is on site for lending materials and for computer access. Re-opening is expected by the end of 2014.
NEW SERVICE! Queens Library at Far Rockaway, 1637 Central Avenue We welcome Workforce 1 to Queens Library! In addition to all the wonderful community library services you expect, Workforce 1 staff are offering connections to jobs that are right for you. All programs and services are free. Available right now!
NEW SERVICE! Queens Library at Far Rockaway, 1637 Central Avenue  “Single Stop” is coming, thanks to funding from the Robin Hood Foundation. Professional case managers will meet with customers to outline the benefits for which each family is eligible, such as food stamps, health insurance, child-care subsidies, tax credits, energy assistance, public assistance, and housing assistance. Through the Single Stop affiliated network, we will also be able to bring legal, financial and tax professionals to the Library.   Available November 2013.
NEW LIBRARY! Queens Library at Far Rockaway, 1637 Central Avenue The brand-new Queens Library at Far Rockaway is in final design. It will be well worth waiting for.   Coming 2016.
