Queens Library at 312 Beach 54 Street has been rebuilt and will re-open for public service on March 18. More good news: the modular building that has been temporarily in service during the rebuilding will remain in place and temporarily house an Adult Learning Center, offering a full menu of adult education and job skills services.
Here is the schedule:
Feb. 21, 2014 – At the end of business, the temporary library will CLOSE to allow staff and material to move into the newly-refurbished permanent library. The mobile library will provide limited service during the closure. The schedule will be announced. Library patrons are also invited to use any of Queens Library’s other locations.
Week of March 3, 2014 – an Adult Learning Center opens in the modular building, next door to the permanent library. It will be the temporary home of the Peninsula Adult Learning Center, while that library is being re-designed and rebuilt. It will feature a full schedule of adult education classes, including basic adult education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, workshops to help prepare for the High School Equivalency exams, workshops for those preparing for citizenship, workshops to learn computer skills and other job-related skills.
March 18, 2014 – Queens Library at Arverne re-opens for public service! It has been fully refurbished. In addition to new computers, new furniture, new décor, it will have a refreshed collection of new books, videos and other library materials. A grand opening celebration for the community will be scheduled in the near future.
