Children’s Library Discovery Center

The Children's Library Discovery Center opened in 2011. It includes hands-on interactive exhibits and learning labs with our very own Discovery Team to enable children ages 3-12 to find information and to inspire interest in books, reading, and learning.

Check out our Science Fair Handbook, a simple guide that explains the steps to successfully complete a science fair assignment. It includes explanations for each step, dozens of project ideas, and a list of helpful websites. Good luck with your project. Check out your local library for books on your chosen topic!

Another new tool available for children through the library is the PowerKids Life Science database. This great resource is specifically designed for learners in grades 3 to 6. PowerKids Life Science promotes digital literacy and 21st century learning skills while offering research, report, and homework help.

The library has two great new resources for children. Ideal for school or for year around learning. BookFlix and TrueFlix are two of our databases that help children with literacy. Check them out now!

Lanyard Club

Easter Bonnet Craft and Parade

Kids will design and create fancy hats and then display them in an impromptu Easter parade.

Toddler Learning Center

Location: Richmond Hill
Registration: Not required

Toddler Learning Center combines a 5-session play group for children ages 18-36 months with a learning opportunity for parents or caregivers. Professionals from the fields of nutrition, physical fitness, speech therapy and child psychology will speak with adults, make simple referrals and give advice while children play.

Teatro IATI: "The Brave Calf" (in Spanish and English)

Location: Richmond Hill
Registration: Not required

A young calf who decides to explore the world goes to the mountains, where he befriends a rabbit and a buzzard. There, they meet a selfish bull who refuses to share water from the only lake in the region. The calf and his new friends peacefully prevent the bull from hoarding all the natural resources, leading the bull to reflect on the importance of friendship, teamwork and caring for the environment.
