Children’s Library Discovery Center

The Children's Library Discovery Center opened in 2011. It includes hands-on interactive exhibits and learning labs with our very own Discovery Team to enable children ages 3-12 to find information and to inspire interest in books, reading, and learning.

Check out our Science Fair Handbook, a simple guide that explains the steps to successfully complete a science fair assignment. It includes explanations for each step, dozens of project ideas, and a list of helpful websites. Good luck with your project. Check out your local library for books on your chosen topic!

Another new tool available for children through the library is the PowerKids Life Science database. This great resource is specifically designed for learners in grades 3 to 6. PowerKids Life Science promotes digital literacy and 21st century learning skills while offering research, report, and homework help.

The library has two great new resources for children. Ideal for school or for year around learning. BookFlix and TrueFlix are two of our databases that help children with literacy. Check them out now!

The "Voices of Queens" Teen Radio Podcast

Location: Central Library
Registration: Not required

Learn how to create your very own radio podcasts in this free workshop program! Come along and learn how to produce fun and engaging podcast episodes. Completion of this course gives you scholarship opportunities, enhances your resume, and can even get you started on the road to a rewarding career in broadcast journalism, audio engineering, news reporting, radio presentation, and beyond. This program series is for teens ages 12 – 19 years old and preregistration is required.

Famous Women In Science Match Challenge

Children will take part in a women in science match challenge, but using computers to match famous woman in science with their discoveries. Toddler Time

Kickoff to Kindergarten

Location: Central Library
Registration: Not required

Parents and other caregivers can help young children 3-4 years old learn the skills they need to be successful in school before they start kindergarten. During eight weekly sessions, Library staff and early childhood teachers will teach parents and caregivers how to use games, book reading, and hands-on activities to help build the most important language and social skills. Materials will be provided to the participants to use them at home. Preregistration is required. Space is limited.

Come for free SAT tutoring to help you prepare for your SAT exam. Registration is required. Online registration begins Saturday, March 9th. There will be 7 sessions - every Monday beginning Monday April 8th. Registration for this program is online only, no phone calls accepted.
