Reviews and Notes

Summary/Annotation ->  A stunning debut novel with an intriguing literary hook: written in part as a letter from a victim to her abductor. Sensitive, sharp, captivating! Gemma, 16, is on layover at Bangkok Airport, en route with her parents to a vacation in Vietnam. She steps away for just a second, to get a cup of coffee. Ty--rugged, tan, too old, oddly familiar--pays for Gemma's drink. And drugs it. They talk. Their hands touch. And before Gemma knows what's happening, Ty takes her. Steals her away. The unknowing object of a long obsession, Gemma has been kidnapped by her stalker and brought to the desolate Australian Outback. STOLEN is her gripping story of survival, of how she has to come to terms with her living nightmare--or die trying to fight it.

This book is indescribable. I can try and say that it is dark, somber, and real. Though the situation is hell-like and the last place anyone would want to be, it is a touching story. It's not a fun read, but it's one that will affect you in ways few stories can. It's the opposite of lighthearted. It encapsulates the sick nature of humanity and the way we relate to one another. It will hit you in ways you haven't been able to comprehend until you starting reading this book. When I finished, I felt the way I would hope to feel after a year's worth of therapy. I took a beating, grieved, and bounced back stronger and more at peace with myself in the at-times revolting world I am I part of.

such a amazing book
