International Resource Center

About the IRC

The International Resource Center (IRC) is a citywide resource of information and materials about the peoples, cultures and economies of the world. It is located on the 3rd level of Queens Library at Flushing in Queens, New York City. It houses books, newspapers, magazines, videos, CDs, and online databases in English and other international languages for general readers. The IRC has special collections, such as the Han Collection on Chinese Culture, the Window on Dynamic Korea, and the Window of Shanghai. The center holds more than 70,000 items, over 90 percent of which can be borrowed. It is a unique concentration of resources for global studies and international commerce rivaling any that is available free to the public anywhere.

Train SUBWAY: 7 to Main Street (last stop). LONG ISLAND RAILROAD: Port Washington line to Flushing-Main Street
Car From Long Island: Grand Central Parkway West to Exit 9A – I-678/Whitestone Bridge/NY 25A East/Northern Blvd./Shea Stadium. Use exit for Northern Blvd. and travel to Main Street. Make right turn and continue past overpass to library. Library is on your left, just past small triangle, bordered by Kissena Blvd.

LIE Westbound to Exit 23 (Main Street). Travel north. Library will be on your right side.

From Whitestone Bridge: Upon exiting the bridge, take the Whitestone Expressway (I-678) South. Exit at Northern Boulevard Eastbound (left turn off the Expressway). Go east on Northern Blvd. to the third intersection (Main Street). Make a right turn on Main Street. Continue 6 blocks to the Library on the corner of Kissena Boulevard.

From Manhattan (alternative to directions on homepage): Midtown Tunnel to Long Island Expressway East to Van Wyck Expressway North. Exit at Northern Boulevard East (turn right). Take Northern Boulevard to Main Street. Make a right onto Main Street. Make a right turn on Main Street to Library at Kissena Boulevard (about 5 blocks).

59th Street Bridge: Exit onto Northern Boulevard. Follow Northern Boulevard straight (about 5 ½ miles) past Shea Stadium to Main Street. Make a right onto Main Street to Library at Kissena Boulevard (about 5 blocks).
Parking

Street Parking: Meter parking on the street is available but hard to find. Many meters are for one hour but there are some 2-hour meters.

Municipal Lots: Generally, it’s 25 cents for 15 minutes; you’ll need a lot of quarters.
Lot #1: Between 138th Street & Union and 37th & 39th Avenues. (This is the largest lot; it’s a 5 block walk to Library).
Lot #2: Prince Street between 38th & 39th Avenues (small lot and also about 5 block walk to Library).
Lot#3: 41st Avenue, between Main Street & College Point Boulevard (closest to Library but small lot).

Parking Garages
Edison Parking Garage: 40-21 Main Street (one block from Library)
Time Warner Parking Garage: Kissena Boulevard & Barclay Avenue (one block from Library).
