Did you know that kids who read for fun actually score better on achievement tests than kids who read only in school or who are tutored in reading? And we have lists of kid-tested favorites for children from pre-school to middle school.
TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books. TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you*. There are even books in French and Spanish! Just click on the TumbleBooks icon and you are in; a username and password are not required!
All you need is the Flash plug-in which is preloaded on all library computers and most home computers. If you are unable to view the TumbleBooks at home, you can download the plug-in for FREE at www.macromedia.com/downloads
In addition to the books, the collection includes games and puzzles which can only be accessed remotely. Games and puzzles are not accessible from library computers.
* If you want to listen to sound, music and narration in the library, you must bring your own headphones. A librarian will show you where to plug it in.
