At the beginning of every month, Queens Library librarians put together a list of titles that comprise our "Recommended Reading" list. Check out these themed reads today! From biographies, to mysteries, to action/adventures, find out what our libraries can offer you. Examples of past lists have included themes such as "Dabbling in Death - Amateur Sleuths", "Beach Reads", and "Let's Not Go to the Videotape! All-Star Sports Stories". All books on these lists are available for online requests.
Did you know that kids who read for fun actually score better on achievement tests than kids who read only in school or who are tutored in reading? And we have lists of kid-tested favorites for children from pre-school to middle school. Just click on the Recommended Reading link above to view bookmarks prepared by our Librarians. You’re sure to find a topic of interest!
Best of Reference is an annual list of books, websites, and electronic resources selected by a committee of librarians for their usefulness in community library reference collections.
Children and young adults can join the Summer Reading Club at any Queens Library location. Usually starting in June and finishing the week before Labor Day in September, they can participate in programs and activities at each Community Libraries.
The Adult Summer Reading Club, initiated in 1999, offers activities which include author talks, book discussions, writing workshops, and club newsletters, each summer throughout the library system to enhance adult summer reading.
Queens Library offers its e-book service in English and in Chinese,Russian and Spanish.

This is a free service designed to bring you the joy of reading something new and exciting, for a few minutes, each day. Every Monday through Friday, you will receive an e-mail with a portion from a popular book. The daily e-mail takes about five minutes to read. A new book starts every Monday. Sample a variety of books, even if you don't think you have time to read.
Reading is usually a solitary activity, but it doesn’t have to be. If you like what you read, it’s only natural to want to share it. The branch in your neighborhood may offer a book discussion group where you can exchange ideas and share your reading enjoyment. The Literature & Languages Division, located at the Central Library, offers customers a number of resources related to books and reading. Poetry, plays, literary criticism, short stories and novels can be found in this division as well as specialized collections of African-American, African and Caribbean literature.
