Approximately 35% of the IRC's items are in English. The holdings make up a unique concentration of books on international subjects. Focused on the humanities, social sciences and business, the collection is designed to serve the needs of general readers and students from high school through to the master's degree level and business users at every level. Users will find books dealing with the history, literature, arts, politics, sciences, religions, cultures and philosophies of the world. Many works from around the world are also available in English translation.
The International Resource Center collects books, magazines, journals and newspapers in over 50 languages. Each international language collection features works dealing with the history, literature, art, politics, religions and philosophies of its respective culture. A user going through the Spanish language collection will therefore find books representative of various aspects of the humanities, social sciences and literature of the Spanish speaking world. In keeping with this goal, translations are avoided and only works originally published in each language are collected.
The following list identifies those languages currently available at the Center.
The International Fiction Collection contains the finest modern and contemporary fiction from around the world in English and English translation. It includes outstanding but hard to find works from Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. Each author's country of origin is indicated on the spine of the book.
