Resources for People with Visual Impairments

Large Print Books

Each branch has a collection of large print books available for circulation. You can browse through these collections and borrow what you like, or you can use Queens Library’s Large Print Books: a Bibliography, (1998 ed.) to request titles through reserve or interloan. This bibliography is available at most reference desks. Interloans for Large Print books are exempt from the usual 40 cent fee.

Books On Tape

Books on tape are available at Central Library and all 62 branches of Queens Library.

Descriptive Videos

Designed for persons with limited vision, Descriptive Video Service (DVS) home videos carefully describe the visual elements of a movie - the action, characters, locations, costumes and sets - without interfering with the movie's dialogue or sound effects.
