Essay by Colleen Theis Although born half a world and a generation apart, the artists represented in Two Sculptors, Two Media share a passion for their work and the experience of creating recognition in a field traditionally dominated by men. Both sculptors deal with deeply spiritual subjects. Their choice of media, however, is vastly different. Ruth Nickerson imposes her will on unforgiving stone, an act which parallels her indomitable spirit. Gabriel Koren works in bronze, a process of "building up,"using her hands and her talent to infuse her subjects with nobility and heroism. |
