JOSÉ RUIZ

José Ruiz is guided by an interest in establishing a visual conversation with the social and hierarchal issues that float outside of a studio or studio practice. These gestures are his way of cementing artistic interventions or road bumps within the seemingly natural progression of art & society’s shared neo-histories. Each investigation, materialized through a wide variety of mediums and formal processes, inherently resurfaces his ongoing focus on identity, visibility and authorship.

José Ruiz received his MFA in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute. He holds a BA in Studio Art from the University of Maryland and a second BA in Sculpture from American University.
