DOREEN McCARTHY

Doreen McCarthy is concerned with how the influence of architecture upon experience allows the individual to contemplate the experience within its confines and how that idea is absorbed into a community. McCarthy wants to further her exploration of the effect of time upon the understanding of space and how it changes with duration. She is concerned with the divide between the past and the present and wants to focus attention on the impalpables of combined space, scale, acuity and institutional history.  What interests the artist is how the identity of her works will shift when they are installed in various locations and how active engagement in a concrete situation has consequences and embraces responsibility.

Doreen McCarthy was born in New Jersey in 1954. She lives and works in New York City.
