The Silk Road stretches from the heartland of Ancient China to the Mediterranean and in centuries past carried not only goods, but ideas. Such a heritage makes people think, imagine, and create. All of the artwork comes from artists who are living and working along the Silk Road today: in Kashgar, Urumqi, Dunhuang, Lanzhou, and Xian. These artists span a broad spectrum – from art researchers to art teachers; from professional artists to local farmers and herdsmen – offering a variety of images that reflect the influence of multiple ethnic cultures.
Ancient Threads, Newly Woven has been organized and is being circulated by Meridian International Center, Washington, D.C.
