Traveling Shoes: Black Migrations- Recreate Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series Panel

More than 75 years ago, Jacob Lawrence created The Migration Series, an epic narrative that through an ambitious 60-panel series portrays the Great Migration, the flight of over a million African Americans from the rural South to the industrial North. Mysteries in the Midnight Zone

Location: Rosedale
Registration: Registration is not yet open for this program. Please check back closer to the program date.

Dive deep into the midnight zone as we explore this hidden ocean habitat and the mysterious animals that live there. We start our journey almost 100 years ago when explorers boarded the Bathysphere to descend 3,028 feet into the deep. Following their expedition, we examine microscopic animal adaptations and create our own deep sea inspired works of art that glow in the dark!


Free computer access is available at all the libraries.

History

The Rosedale community was established in 1888 and named Foster’s Meadow. In 1894, the area was divided into building lots and the present name was established. In 1919, the Women’s Club asked the library for service. A collection staffed by volunteers was begun and by November a station was established. In 1920, rent-free quarters were found for the library. The Branch was relocated a number of times over the years. In May 1962 the Rosedale Public Library was opened in the rented building that it presently occupies. This was overseen by the Board of Trustees with Cornelius B. Hermann as president and Chief Librarian Harold W. Tucker.
