Queens Memory Broken Heart Week

Valentine’s Day is here, but this year, we’re doing something a little different. Coming up this afternoon, Cambria Heights Library will partner with the Queens Memory project to present It Never Gets Old…Calling All Adults with Experienced Hearts. This event will celebrate the tradition of oral history, and we invite older adults to stop by and share their stories of heartbreak with teen interviewers.

Queens Memory, Queens Library’s flagship oral history program, is dedicated to preserving everyday stories of the borough for posterity. Last Tuesday, February 7, served as preparation for this evening’s interviews. Teen participants practiced by interviewing each other, using storytelling and interviewing techniques refined by Queens Memory to guide their conversations. Stories can be about romantic love, familial love, or even navigating the difficulties of loss.

If you’re an older adult interested in participating, visit the library to sign up for a 15-minute recording slot. All stories will be honored on the Queens Memory website. After all, it’s the stories of ordinary people that become extraordinary histories.

It Never Gets Old…Calling All Adults with Experienced Hearts takes place on Tuesday, February 14 at 3:30pm at the Cambria Heights community library.
