Launching the Teen Podcast

Queens Library’s Teen Radio Podcast Workshop has had excellent results, with the official launch happening not just once, but twice! Two launch parties took place: one at Central Library on Thursday, March 23, and the other at Queens Library for Teens at Far Rockaway on Thursday, March 30.

Participating students between the ages of 12 and 19 reaped the rewards of their hard work, which saw them create their own podcast after an eight-week course.

Each workshop covered a different topic, including audio editing, how to source an interesting story or topic, and podcast presentation skills.

The students were led by instructors Sharon Cox, Assistant Director of the CLDC and Teen Center at Central; Chris Neuner, Radio Specialist; Ashley Allen, Customer Service Specialist; Tara Brady, Young Adult Library at Central; Brandon Jeffries, Teen Center Coordinator; and Gary Hawkins, Youth Counselor at the Queens Library for Teens, all of whom brought their expertise to the workshops every week.

The launches kicked off with an informational talk by the student radio team, with snacks and pizza on hand to satisfy any rumbling stomachs! Students then received certificates acknowledging their hard work, completion of the course, and successful creation of a podcast.

The podcasts were played to the audience and a special guest Q & A with hip-hop pioneer DJ Chuck Chillout rounded out the evenings.

Congratulations to the finishers—and great work on your final product!
