Battle of the Bands, Chiv Culture

We’re four short weeks away from the 2nd annual Battle of the Bands, so we’re getting the party started early and introducing you to our rockin’ contestants. First up, it’s Chiv Culture.

“Good deeds, good vibes, good music. We represent chivalry culture,” said Chiv Culture’s lead vocalist, Akinyemi, when talking about their catchy name in an interview with Birthplace Magazine. This sunny attitude plays into their music, a brand-new culmination of several vocalists and musicians inspired by jazz, hip-hop and standout lyrics. Their official genre? "Head-nod," according to their Facebook page, and we have no doubt they’ll get heads nodding and feet tapping at the Colden Auditorium on July 14.

The group also has formal training in their corner, as many are students in The New School’s jazz program. Though the band is still in its early days, they’ve already started the college radio ropes, laying down their track "Cupid" on WNYU. It’s only been online for a week, but the video of their performance has already racked up more than 1.4 thousand views—watch it here. With live presence like this, we can’t wait to see how they wow the crowd and take on the competition when Queens’ night of nights rolls around.
