While you may not think of Queens when you think of jazz, Queens was home to many of the jazz greats like Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald.
The jazz collections of Queens Library offer several ways to explore the story of this great American art form. Some highlights include the comprehensive collection of books, scores and recordings in the Central Library’s Fine Arts Division; the Louis Armstrong archive at East Elmhurst and the Black Heritage Reference Center at Langston Hughes Community and Cultural Center.
Queens library also offers contemporary and classical performances by professional jazz musicians throughout the year.
